Our COVID-19 Procedure for Dance Classes

We are so very excited to welcome our returning dancers and new dancers to the studio this year!  As much as we would love to conduct classes as "normal", we simply cannot do that currently in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic.  Please know that your child's safety is my top priority as we navigate school resuming and dance resuming.  Our staff has spent countless hours working through procedures and guidelines that have been implemented at Heinz Academy.  We are taking every precaution and are following the strict guidelines mandated by government officials. Our operating and safety protocols will be outlined below.

We encourage each of you to assess your own comfort levels and risk factors before coming to the studio.  Our community's health and safety are our number one priority and we urge you to take whatever personal precautions you need to, including staying home if you don't feel comfortable.  With that being said, that does not mean you can't dance!!  This year we will be running on three different plans in hopes of catering to all of our families needs.

Plan A:  In-person classes will be available at the time listed in your Registration Confirmation email you just received.  We are planning to offer these classes through June 2021 as long as it is safe for our community.  We will assume your child is taking part in in-person classes, unless you let us know differently.

Plan B:  Hybrid classes will be offered in conjunction with our in-person classes.  If your family is not comfortable with in-person classes, your child can still attend their desired class, but via a virtual format.  There will be a virtual option available for all classes in our schedule and will be open to all enrolled students.  We also encourage you to use the virtual format if your student is sick to the point they shouldn't be at the studio, but they feel well enough to attend class.  We also encourage this option if your family has traveled outside of the state and quarantining for 2-weeks should occur.

Plan C:  If, per government regulations, we are required to close again we will transition to all virtual classes so students can continue to dance from the safety of their homes.  We had a lot of success with virtual classes this Spring and saw our students thrive in the continued connection and consistency amongst the chaos.  We do want to offer our 100% guarantee though...if we unfortunately reach this point again and virtual classes just aren't for you, simply notify us and we will remove you from class and discontinue your tuition payments.  You are in no way committed through the hard season.

Please find below what attending dance this Fall will look like, including Heinz Academy's safety and sanitation protocols in compliance with the CDC recommendations and all official state and county orders:

What WE are doing before you get to the studio (general measures to reduce exposure):

  • Heinz Academy will restrict the number of bodies allowed in the dance studio at one time to ensure our headcount remains within government guidelines.

  • 6'x6' tape squares have been placed in each studio to ensure appropriate spacing according to social distancing guidelines (min 6ft.).

  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the studio. Bathrooms will be stocked with hand soap for washing hands.

  • Class formats have been adjusted so there is no shared equipment.

  • Extra time will be provided, if needed, between our classes to allow for thorough sanitation of all equipment and surfaces.

  • Staff will disinfect all common surfaces (e.g. door knobs, counter surfaces) before and after every class; when classes are not in session, they will perform disinfection of common surfaces every hour.

  • All dancers will be verbally screened by Heinz Academy staff members prior to entering the facility.  Dancer's temperatures will be taken via a no-touch forehead thermometer.  Dancers will also be asked if they have any symptoms associated with COVID-19 and will also be given hand sanitizer before entering the facility.  IF a dancer is running a fever, or complains of any symptoms related to COVID-19, that dancer will not be allowed in the building and will be asked to stay home from class for the following two weeks.

  • All staff must comply with social distancing and hand-washing protocols and will refrain from entering the building if they are experiencing any of the pre-screen symptoms listed above.

  • All Heinz Academy protocols and appropriate signage will be posted at entrances and throughout the studio.

What it looks like for YOU when you attend the studio or a class (Protocol for Dancers):

  • All dancers will be verbally screened by Heinz Academy staff members for symptoms prior to entering the premises.

  • We also request members limit the amount of personal items brought into the dance studio and store all jackets/layers prior to starting class into their designated area. This is to avoid bringing further outside contaminants into the facility.

  • Dancers are required to bring their own water, as they will not be allowed to fill them from water sources within the facility.

  • Dancers are required to bring a yoga mat with them to class to lay on the floor in their space to help alleviate further germ spread.

  • Dancers are required to bring a hand towel to each class to use to alleviate germ spread when using the ballet barres.

  • Dancers will not share equipment during classes.

  • Dancers must wash hands after blowing their nose, sneezing, coughing or using restrooms.

  • We will require ALL students and staff to wear masks while in the building.  If students or staff do not have their masks, they will not be allowed in the building.

  • Dancers are expected to adhere to instructions provided with respect to social distancing.

  • No parents are allowed to come into the building.  Drop-off of students will take place at the check-in station at the entrance of the facility and all parents must remain outside and wait for their student to exit after class.

We want to make attending dance as easy for our families as possible, so we have put a package together that's available for all our families to purchase for $30, if wanted.  This package will include all the items included below in the graphic and will be waiting for your student their first day at the studio.  These packages can be ordered from our online store today.  You are not required to get these items from us but we want to make the transition as easy as possible.

We cannot wait to see everyone at the studio!  Please know our students safety is our main priority.  We will continue to communicate frequently this year as we navigate this crazy, new world of ours.  Feel free to reach out at any point if you have any questions!
